There’s something magical that happens when you stop trying to force something that just isn’t working.
I was reminded of this in a big way last week.
Since January, I’d been crafting a talk for a speaker showcase. I had done all the right things—mapped out my talking points, revised the flow, edited, practiced, tweaked, and tweaked again. The content was solid. It made sense on paper. But every time I tried to bring it to life… it just wasn’t landing.
It felt like I was dragging it uphill. No spark. No flow. Just effort.
Then, two days before the showcase, I had a call with my mentor. In a simple, matter-of-fact way, she said:
“What if you let go of that topic entirely and talked about the horses instead?”
At first, I resisted. I’d already put in so much time. So much energy. So many outlines. But in the same breath, I knew she was right.
That night, I started fresh. I let the original idea go. I followed the thread of what felt alive and real—my work with Horse Medicine Connection.
Within hours, the new talk wrote itself. It flowed so easily.
I rehearsed on Wednesday.
I opened the showcase on Thursday.
And I rocked it.
It was so much fun. It felt like me. And I received more positive feedback than I ever expected.
The lesson?
Sometimes what’s not working isn’t meant to work.
And letting go isn’t failure—
It’s an invitation.
To open. To pivot. To choose alignment over struggle.
And to trust that what flows is for you.
Here’s to more ease,
more flow,
and more courage to release what’s no longer a match—
even when we’ve poured ourselves into it.
