You know the saying, “too much of a good thing can be bad”? Have you ever considered this idea when thinking about self-development? I have.
For a long time, I was deeply engrossed in self-improvement, always seeking ways to better myself, achieve more, and reach higher goals. But there came a time when I no longer had the bandwidth to continue chasing self-development.
Instead, I began to wonder how I could use the knowledge and skills I’d acquired to enhance my self-knowing and enrich my everyday life.
By shifting my focus from self-improvement to self-discovery, I realized that instead of constantly seeking to improve, I could dive deeper into understanding and embracing my true self. It was time to use my self-development as a foundation for self-discovery and self-knowledge.
As a result of this awareness, I am now in my era of self-knowing.
Self-knowing, or self-awareness, is the profound understanding of one’s own character, feelings, motives, and desires.
This era of self-knowing has been about exploring my inner landscape using all the SELFs: self-reflection, self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-renewal, self-reclamation, self-love and self-care.
By committing to this ongoing process, I’ve started unlocking the potential to live a life that truly resonates with my essence, filled with purpose, joy, and fulfillment.
What are your thoughts on self-development vs self-knowing? What era are you in?
