Yes-No Spiral

Yes-No Spiral

I abandoned the idea of New Year’s Resolutions a few years back when I realized I wasn’t good at sticking to them. I would set specific goals with excitement, anticipating certain results, only to lose that enthusiasm and end up feeling weighed down by the tasks. This sense of drudgery would often transform into guilt.

The following thoughts were fostered by a post by Nicole Trick Steinbach regarding her “Yes-No Spiral” perspective.

We often tether ourselves to a resounding “YES” that echoed with conviction when we first embraced it. Yet, as the days unfold and circumstances evolve, that initial connection can wane, leaving us to question the authenticity of our commitment.

How often have you found yourself tied to resolutions/commitments that once felt right but fade with time?

The nature of transformation means that some of our resounding “YES’s” will inevitably evolve into quiet, but resolute, “NO’s.” And in those moments of realization, there is a profound wisdom in acknowledging the shifting currents and embracing the courage to release what no longer aligns with our authentic selves.

I am here to tell you that it is not only permissible but necessary to let go of commitments that have become burdensome, acknowledging that a new and genuine “YES” awaits you around the corner. The journey is a continuum of discovery, and as we bid farewell to what no longer serves our growth, we make space for the unexpected blessings that the future holds.

As we start a new year, let’s approach it with open hearts and free spirits. Set your goals, intentions, resolutions (whatever you call them) but don’t be afraid to release them if they no longer resonate. Being willing to let go of the original YES opens doors to unexpected and fulfilling YES’s and keeps you on the path of alignment.

Wishing you a Happy New Year, my friend, filled with the courage to embrace the evolving chapters of your journey and the joy of discovering fresh affirmations that resonate with the essence of your true self.
