The Best Version of You is the One Breaking the Rules

What would it be like to play/be the role of the best version of you?

Not become her. Not chase her. Just play/be her for a moment.

Most of us are already playing roles all day long. The responsible one. The easygoing one. The one who keeps it together. The one who doesn’t rock the boat. We learned these parts somewhere along the way, and we got really good at them.

What if there’s another role available?

Not a better version of you in the “fix everything” kind of way. I’m not talking about a glow-up or a total life overhaul. I mean the version of you that already knows what feels true. The one who doesn’t second guess every decision. The one who doesn’t shrink to make other people comfortable.

What if, just for today, you played her?

What would she say yes to?

What would she say no to?

How would she walk into a room?

What would she stop tolerating?

I tried this the other day in a small. I was about to say yes to something I didn’t actually want to do. It would have been easier to say yes and then I paused and thought, “okay, if I were playing the role of the best version of me right now, what would I do?”

The answer came fast. I said no.

That was it. No big speech. No explanation. Just a clean, honest no.

My no did not blow everything up. No one got upset. The world didn’t end but something in me shifted. It felt like I chose myself in a way I hadn’t in a long time.

You don’t become your best version all at once. You meet her in small, quiet moments where you could go either way and you choose differently.

It’s not about pretending to be someone you’re not. It’s about giving yourself permission to step into who you already are, without all the extra noise.

So maybe today isn’t about figuring out your whole life. Maybe it’s just asking: “What would it be like to play (be) her for one decision?”

And then another, and another.

At some point, it stops feeling like a role and starts feeling like the truth.
